The work will take place from Monday to Saturday between 07:00 and 17:00, and is scheduled to continue until the end of April 2026, weather permitting and if all goes according to plan.

Night work is anticipated to start on 4 April 2026, and will take place between 19:00 and 07:00 to allow for activities such as milling of asphalt material and the placement of new asphalt surfacing and road marking. Residents in the area can expect some noise during this time.

‘This resurfacing work along Military Road in Steenberg is vital. It strengthens and preserves the road’s existing layers, extends the lifespan of the infrastructure and ultimately ensures that residents can travel more safely and efficiently. We have a limited window each year to complete major road maintenance, as dry and stable weather conditions are essential for durable, long-lasting repairs. That’s why we are pushing ahead with as many road resurfacing projects as possible while conditions remain favourable. We appreciate the community’s patience during this time, as these upgrades are all part of our commitment to keeping Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas

The project work planned for Military Road includes:

  • Removal, installation and/or relaying of existing kerbing, channelling and edging
  • Milling and replacement of the existing road surface
  • Repair of underlying base failures and settlements
  • Repair of isolated sections of the sidewalk where defects have occurred
  • Reinstatement of traffic signalling equipment
  • Reinstatement of all road markings and road studs

Motorists and residents are advised that traffic accommodation measures will be in place and minor delays may be experienced.
